Roanoke, Va. (March 20, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team was unable to answer three eight inning runs as the Buffaloes fell 4-1 to NCAA D-III Roanoke College on Wednesday night in Roanoke, Va.

  After the first three innings went scoreless, the Maroons scored the first run of the game on a passed ball. The Buffaloes responded in the sixth inning as
Sam Tarlton (Chuckey, Tenn.) crossed home plate after
Brandon Malone (Maryville, Tenn.) walked with the bases loaded. However, Milligan was unable to drive another run across home plate as the game remained tied at 1-1 heading into the seventh inning.

  Neither team was able to get on a runner on base in the seventh inning. In the top of the eighth,
Cory McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a leadoff single, but the Buffaloes were unable to score the runner. Roanoke regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth with three runs. Milligan put runners on first and second base in the top of the ninth inning. However, they were unable to score the runs to rally past the Maroons.

  Kirk led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-3, while
Tyree Jefferies (Jackson, Tenn.),
Nathan Millsap (Kingsport, Tenn.),
Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) and McPherson added a hit apiece.

  On the mound,
Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) got the starting nod, and recorded a no decision. In three innings of work, Watts allowed just two hits with five strikeouts.
Jarrett Ramsey (Newport, Tenn.) was handed the loss as he allowed three earned runs on four hits.

 With the loss, Milligan falls to 11-14 overall.

  The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Friday, March 22, as they travel to nonconference foe Martin Methodist for a weekend series. First pitch for Friday's nine-inning game is set for 4 p.m.
