Milligan College, Tenn. (April 10, 2013) --- The Milligan College women's tennis team battled to take an 8-1 victory over NCAA Division II Lincoln Memorial University at Mathes Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. The Milligan men came up short in several close matches as they fell 9-0 to the Railsplitters.
On the women's side,
Grace Sarver (Draper, Va.) picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over Leah Donoff, and she teamed with
Sarah Rainwater (Knoxville, Tenn.) to take a 8-2 victory over Auro Penalosa and Donoff in No. 1 doubles. Rainwater captured a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Alexander Granger in No. 3 singles.
The team of
Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and
Rachel Hodas (Knoxville, Tenn.) won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles over Elena Vasilyona and Granger. Hodas was victorious in No. 2 singles over Vasilyona by a score of 6-2, 6-3, while Kelly took a 6-1, 6-1 win over Penalosa in No. 4 singles.
Ahmee Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) also picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Summer Robinson in singles action. The duo of
Hallie Winfrey (Fayetteville, Ga.) and A. Kelly won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
In men's action, the duo of
Mickey Brown (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Caleb Friddell (Ooltewah, Tenn.) were edged 8-6 by Gabriel Martin and Michael Koenen.
Andy Pullen (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Colin Bumann (Abilene, Tex.) fell 8-4 to Philipp Hoffman and Alexy Minevskiy.
The Milligan women improved to 15-2 overall, while the men fall to 6-10 overall.
Both squads return to action on Saturday, April 13, as they travel to Lee University for a nonconference match. Match time in Cleveland, Tenn., is set for 1:30 p.m. ÂÂ
