Barbourville, Ky. (April 13, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team came up short in a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference games to Union College on Saturday afternoon in Barbourville, Ky. Milligan fell 7-3 in the day's opening game, and the second game saw Union take a 3-1 walkoff win in eight innings.

  After the Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first game, Milligan responded to tie the game in the top of the second when
Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) scored off a
Hunter Carpenter (Sneedville, Tenn.) hit. Union scored three runs in the home side of the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. However, the Buffaloes closed the gap to 4-3 when
Tyree Jeffries (Jackson, Tenn.) drove
Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) and
Sam Tarlton (Chuckey, Tenn.) across home plate. Milligan continued to fight, but they were unable to battle back as Union added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to secure the win.

  For Milligan, Jeffries led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) went 2-for-2.
Brandon Malone (Maryville, Tenn.) ended the game 1-for-2.

Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) was handed the loss on the mound as he allowed five runs on eight hits in three innings of work. ÂÂ

  In the second game, neither team was able to get on the board until
Brett Mercurio (West Palm Beach, Fla.) scored off a McPherson hit in the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs tied the game at one run apiece in the fifth inning, and neither team was able to break the 1-1 tie in the scheduled seven innings. Union, however, captured the victory with a two-run walkoff homerun in the bottom of the eighth.

  Kirk, Mercurio and McPherson each finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate.
Brett Whittington (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) received a no-decision as he allowed one unearned run on three hits.
Justin Johnson (Black Mountain, Tenn.) was handed the loss.

  Milligan falls to 20-20 overall and 7-10 in AAC action.
