Milligan College, Tenn. (April 7, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team was unable to answer four late inning runs as they fell 5-4 to Appalachian Athletic Conference St. Andrews University on Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field.

  The Buffaloes struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning as
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) crossed home plate off a
Tyree Jeffries (Jackson, Tenn.) single. Milligan was unable to add another run in the frame as they took a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning.

  In the seventh inning, Milligan extended their lead to 3-0 when
Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) drove in two runs as
Logan Suggs (Newport, Tenn.) and
Blake Buck (Maryville, Tenn.) crossed home plate. The Buffaloes put runners on second and third base, but they were unable to bring the runs home to extend the lead heading into the eighth inning.

   The Knights scored their first run of the game in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, but a Milligan double play ended the inning. The Buffaloes answered in the home side of the frame as Jeffries crossed the plate off a
Brett Mercurio (West Palm Beach, Fla.) single. However, St. Andrews brought in four runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 5-4 lead, and the Buffaloes were unable to answer in the bottom side of the inning.

  Mercurio and Jeffries were 3-for-4 with a RBI apiece, while McPherson was 2-for-5. On the mound,
Justin Johnson (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) was handed the loss as he allowed two earned runs.
Jake Watts (Boone, N.C.) received a no decision in seven innings of work as he allowed just four hits.

  Milligan moves to 17-18 overall and 7-8 in conference action.

  The Buffaloes return to nonconference action on Monday, April 8, as they host NCAA D-III Roanoke College. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., at Anglin Field.
