Milligan College, Tenn. (April 8, 2013) --- The Milligan College baseball team pulled away to take a 10-2 nonconference victory over Roanoke College on Monday night at Anglin Field.ÂÂ

  After the Maroons opened the game with two runs in the top of the first, the Buffaloes responded in the bottom of the second as
Hunter Carpenter (Sneedville, Tenn.) drove
Tyree Jeffries (Jackson, Tenn.) across home plate. Milligan kept the inning alive and tied the game when
Brett Mercurio (West Palm Beach, Fla.) scored off a
Blake Buck (Maryville, Tenn.) hit.

Logan Suggs (Newport, Tenn.) and
Corey McPherson (Johnson City, Tenn.) scored in the bottom of the third inning to give the Buffaloes a 4-2 lead. In the fourth, McPherson used a double to plate runs from
Dustin Clawson (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Carpenter to extend the Milligan lead to 6-2.

Sam Tarlton (Chucky, Tenn.) added a run in the bottom of the seventh as he drove in McPherson. Kirk continued the inning as he scored off a Jeffries single, and Jeffries capped the inning as he the crossed home plate off a Mercurio single to give Milligan a 9-2 lead after seven complete innings. The Buffaloes added a run in the bottom of the eighth, and kept the Maroons off scoreboard to preserve the victory in the ninth.

  Tarlton led the way at the plate with a 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while McPherson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jeffries was also 2-for-3.

  On the mound,
Corey Jenkins (Jonesborough, Tenn.) picked up the win in relief work. In two innings of work, Jenkins allowed just one hit with three strikeouts.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 18-18 overall and remains 7-8 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, April 10, as they travel to UVA-Wise for a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
