Buchanan lifts Milligan women's soccer past USC-Beaufort

Beaufort, S.C. (Aug. 30, 2013) --- Freshman Rebecca Buchanan (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored in the 85th minute to lift the Milligan women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over USC-Beaufort on Friday in Beaufort, S.C.
 
   In the opening minutes, the Buffaloes were unable to connect on shots from Teagan Wood (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Buchanan. Milligan continued to apply pressure, but neither team was able to score before the half expired.
 
   Sidney Bailey (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Wood took shots in the opening minutes of the second half, but they were unable to beat the Land Sharks keeper. Callie West (Alcoa, Tenn.) narrowly missed breaking onto the board in the 76th minute.
 
   Buchanan struck for the Buffaloes in the 85th minute on floater from the right side. Milligan kept the Land Sharks from striking in the final five minutes to preserve the win.
 
   Defensively, Charlotte Stephens (Gray, England) recorded four saves in a half of play, while Lauren McInturff (Kingsport, Tenn.) tallied three saves in a half.
 
   With the win, Milligan improves to 1-0-1 on the season.
 
   The Buffaloes return to action on Sunday, Sept. 1, as they travel to SCAD-Savannah. Match time in Savannah, Ga., is set for 3 p.m.
