Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 14, 2013) --- The Milligan College volleyball team picked up their first Appalachian Athletic Conference victory of the season on Saturday as they cruised by Truett-McConnell College 3-0 inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

  The Buffaloes opened the match on a 5-2 run with kills from freshman
Samantha Bruinius (Chicago, Ill.) and senior
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.). After the Lady Bears closed the gap, Milligan pulled out to an eight-point lead, and outscored TMC 12-6 to capture the first set 25-14.

  In the second set, Milligan used points from Whaley and Bruinius to take an early 5-1 lead.
Emilee Linkous (Morristown, Tenn.) scored on a kill with an assist from
Jessica Davenport (Cleveland, Tenn.), and
Kaitlyn Round (Billings, Mont.), recorded a service ace as the Buffaloes pulled away to take a 25-10 set victory.

  The decisive third set saw
Charlie Bateman (Jefferson City, Tenn.) record early kills as Milligan held an early 8-4 advantage. Truett-McConnell trimmed the lead to one point, but Milligan capitalized on Lady Bears' errors and secured the victory with a 25-17 set win.

  Davenport finished the game with 39 assists and eight digs, while Bruinius recorded 15 digs and seven kills. Whaley finished the match with a team high 11 kills.
Grace Ann Moorhouse (Morristown, Tenn.) and Round had eight digs apiece.

  With the win, Milligan improves to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in AAC action.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 17, as they host AAC foe Virginia Intermont. Match time inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse is set for 6:30 p.m.
