MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2014) â€" Milligan withstood a late-game scare Wednesday in AAC women's basketball action and came away a 67-64 victor over St. Andrews University.

Milligan improved to 13-7 (9-3 AAC), moving into a tie for third in league standings and remaining one game out of first place. St. Andrews fell to 5-12 (2-10 AAC).

Milligan led 58-48 inside of seven minutes and 64-57 at the 1:15 mark before watching St. Andrews close the gap to one with seven seconds left. It took two clutch free throws from
Kayla Kelly and a big defensive stand to avert what would have been the Buffaloes first loss at home since the first week of December.

Kelly finished with 16 points, 12 in the second half, and nine rebounds. The senior was 4-of-11 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

Haley Wyrick led Milligan in scoring with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting. She scored 13 points in the second half.

Milligan shot 32.3% from the floor in the victory but turned the ball over only eight times. On the defensive end, the Buffaloes came up with seven steals and forced the Lady Knights into 22 turnovers.

For St. Andrews, Natia Gasque was one of two players with a double-double. She had 20 points and 12 rebounds. Alexus Davis had 10 points, 10 boards.

Milligan will be back at home on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. for a matchup with No. 23 Tenn. Wesleyan College (13-3, 9-2 AAC). Tenn. Wesleyan ranks second in league play.
