Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Despite Kaseke's late goal, Buffs fall to SWU

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2014) â€" Less than four minutes after Tapiwa Kaseke scored the equalizer against Southern Wesleyan University, the Milligan College men's soccer team surrendered the match-winner to the visiting Warriors in a 2-1 losing effort Wednesday night on Anglin Field.

Milligan, which has endured a season full of games decided by a single goal, dropped its record to 3-4-2 (1-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference). The loss marked the fifth straight 2-1 decision and the eighth straight game this season to be determined by no more than a single goal. SWU improved to 6-3 on the season.

Kaseke's equalizer, his sixth goal of 2014, came in the 78th minute and capped off a furious run of goal-scoring opportunities for the Buffaloes late in the second half. In the 15 minutes prior, Milligan earned three consecutive corner kicks, the last of which featured an ensuing header from Jesse Ramoya that caromed off the near post and to the foot of Bruce Olivier whose shot went wide.

Seven minutes after Olivier's miss, Dan Ball made a brilliant save on a one-on-one with SWU's Ivan Malagon to keep the game within reach at 1-0, and Kaseke made it count by scoring an off-balance goal the next time down the pitch. Kaseke found the back of the net by chipping Jonathan Watson's pass over Warrior goalkeeper Ruben Rodriguez from a tough angle near the end line.

The match was decided, however, four minutes later when Bruno Liozzi found Alejandro Sanchez wide open at the top of the penalty area for an easy put-away.

Milligan was outshot 14-7, including 6-2 on shots on target. The Warriors took nine shots in the second half. Ball made four saves while his counterpart Gonzalez needed only one.

Southern Wesleyan took the initial lead late in the first half on a goal from Noel Fischer, assisted by Sanchez. It came 38 minutes into a game that seemed to be controlled by Milligan so far. To that point, the Buffs had taken four shots and had two great looks at goal which weren't finished.

Milligan will be on the road over the weekend, facing Bluefield College (6-3, 4-2 AAC) in AAC action on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. The Buffaloes come back home the following Tuesday for another AAC matchup against Montreat College. Kickoff for that one is set for 7 p.m.
