Men's basketball routs The King's College on Halloween night

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 31, 2014) -- It was scary how good the Milligan College men's basketball team looked Friday night in the second game of the season. Led by Patjo Twagirayezu's 22 points, everyone on the roster entered the scoring column, and the Buffaloes walked away from the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse 96-31 victors.

"It's been a good team effort so far," Head Coach Bill Robinson said after beating his alma mater. "It's been nice to get everybody lots of playing time. We have been able to work on a lot of things offensively and defensively. It's been a good start."

Milligan (2-0) limited The King's College (0-1) to 9-of-52 (17.3%) shooting and 12 second-half points en route to the team's largest margin of victory since the Buffaloes hammered Crown College 105-32 on Nov. 27, 2007. Offensively, the Buffaloes were 39-of-68 (57.4%) from the field and put three players in double figures, including Twagirayezu, Mike Woods Jr. (16) and Milos Petrovic (10). No double-doubles were reached, although Edward Kalu posted 10 rebounds and Mickey Woods had 10 assists, both to go along with six points.

Twagirayezu missed only one shot, a three-pointer in the first half, and finished the game 8-of-9 with four rebounds, an assist and a steal. His steal was one of the team's 18 as the Buffaloes forced 23 turnovers, recorded 18 offensive rebounds and blocked two shots on the defensive end.

Milligan never trailed for the entirety of the contest but waited until the 12:25 mark in the first half to extend the lead into double digits. Petrovic had the bucket on an offensive put-back then to go up 21-11, and five minutes later, the Buffaloes followed with a 16-0 run over a three and a half-minute span to put the game away.

Milligan came out of the intermission scoring the first 10 points as part of a 28-4 run over the first 14 minutes of second half. Six Buffaloes scored at least one basket during that stretch.

"It's great to be able to get an opportunity for guys to play early on," Robinson said. "We have been getting a lot of production from them because we have some really good players. It's a real testament to our depth."

The King's College was led in scoring by Jordan McGinnis who scored 12 points and added two assists and a time-high three steals. McGinnis was one of four Lions with four rebounds.

Both the Milligan men's and women's basketball teams will be in exhibition action against East Tennessee State University over the next three days. The women will face the Buccaneers Saturday at 12 p.m. inside Brooks Gym. The men will play Monday night at 7 p.m. at Freedom Hall.
