Late-game penalty kick ends rally for men's soccer

BLUEFIELD, Va. (Oct. 4, 2014) â€" Bluefield College took advantage of their opportunities Saturday night to defeat the Milligan College men's soccer team 3-2 in a close game.

The Buffaloes fell to 3-4-2 on the season and with the loss to Bluefield College dropped to 1-3 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The Rams wasted no time in getting their first goal on the board, scoring within the first 12 seconds of the game off of a misplayed ball by Milligan's defense.

The Buffs evened the score in the third minute as Bruce Olivier headed in the corner kick from Lewis Grant and found the back of the net.

Bluefield scored both of their final goals off of penalty kicks, the first of which came in the 15th minute of the game to give the Rams their second lead of the night (2-1).

Andre Ottoni broke away early in the second half to kick in the tying goal for Milligan, but it would not be enough as Dean Johnson received his second penalty kick in the 82nd minute of the game and scored the winning goal for the Rams (3-2).

The Buffs outshot the Rams 15-9 with nine of the shots being goal, but Rams goalkeeper Jefferson Watson made seven saves to stop the Buffs' chances at a win.
