MONTREAT, N.C. (Oct. 7, 2014) â€" Nothing could stop the Milligan College volleyball team Tuesday evening as they swept Montreat College 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-20).
ÂÂ
Milligan improved their record to 11-11, while also gaining another win in the Appalachian Athletic Conference to move to 5-3 in conference play.
ÂÂ
"I'm happy with the outcome of tonight's match," commented Head Coach
Doneva Bays. "Montreat is always a tough place to play with lots of distractions, so I was happy that we managed to keep our focus on fundamentals. Our goal was to take care of our serve and our pass, and that made the difference in the outcome."
ÂÂ
The Buffaloes held a lead over the Lady Cavaliers for most of the first game, but Montreat rallied to tie the game at 22. Milligan stopped their offensive and took the match 25-23.
ÂÂ
Milligan put aside all distractions in game two, taking an early lead against the Lady Cavaliers. They eventually turned that lead into a 25-15 victory.
ÂÂ
The Lady Cavaliers would not make a third victory easy for Milligan as they jumped out to an early lead, but the Buffs charged ahead in the end to take the final game 25-20.
ÂÂ
Freshman
Marissa Langford led the Buffs in kills (9) and recorded a career-high .750 attack percentage on the evening, as Junior
Jessica Davenport put up 31 assists on the 32 total kills of the Buffs.
ÂÂ
Junior
Emilee Linkous not only played great offense, recording seven kills, but she also earned three solo blocks on defense against Montreat.
ÂÂ
The Buffs will take a break from AAC action to take on Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, on Oct. 9. This will be the fifth game in their seven-game stretch on the road before returning home to rematch Montreat College on Oct. 14.
