BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 22, 2014) --
Hayley Wyrick made a basket with 39 seconds left to cut a once 15-point deficit to one, and the Milligan College women's basketball team scored the last six points of the game, but it was not enough as Union College took a 65-64 Appalachian Athletic Conference win over the Buffaloes Saturday evening.
ÂÂ
Wyrick led all scorers with 19 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal but the Buffaloes were dealt their sixth loss of the season, falling to 1-6 (1-3 AAC). Union (4-1, 3-0 AAC) stayed perfect in the league and remained one of only three teams left without a conference loss.
ÂÂ
Milligan trailed for the entire game, falling behind 7-0 in the first four minutes of the game, yet the Buffs closed within one possession of the Bulldogs on four occasions, including the final 30 seconds of the game where a missed shot from Union gave Milligan one last chance at the win. However, as the buzzer sounded, Milligan's would-be winner wouldn't go, and Union captured the win by one point, 65-64.
ÂÂ
Aside from Wyrick,
Lindsee Price and
Allison Jones both hit double digits in scoring with 13 and 10 points respectively, with Jones also leading the team in rebounds (eight) and steals (five).
ÂÂ
Milligan's next game is against conference opponent Columbia College who has had a rollercoaster season thus far, sitting them at 5-3 overall and 2-1 AAC. The Buffs will travel to Columbia, South Carolina, on Tuesday, Nov. 25 to play the Fighting Koalas on their home court. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
