BRIDGEWATER, Va. (Dec. 13, 2014) â€" Another big second half by
Mickey Woods and the Milligan College men's basketball team helped the Buffaloes erase a 14-point halftime deficit, but for the second night in a row, it was not enough. In the final game of the Don Glick Classic on Saturday evening, Milligan fell to host Bridgewater College 81-71.
ÂÂ
The 10-point loss marked the first time Milligan (10-4, 5-1 AAC) fell by double figures this season as all three previous losses were by eight points or less. It also marked the first time the Buffs lost back-to-back games since the Christmas/New Year's break last season. Bridgewater improved to 5-2 after posting two victories as the only team to go undefeated in this year's Classic.
ÂÂ
Woods scored 15 in the second half, a team-high 18 for the game, and was one of six players from four teams to be named all-tournament. Woods was 7-of-16 from the floor and 3-of-6 from 3-point. One of the senior's triples capped off a 13-2 run, part of a 23-8 Milligan run that started the second half, and put the Buffs into the lead 53-52 with under 11 minutes left.
ÂÂ
Down the stretch, it was made free throws from Bridgewater, however, that helped seal it. The Eagles made 10-of-14 from the foul line over the last four minutes, including four in the last minute of play after a
Julian Bailey offensive putback cut it to a four-point game with 1:11 remaining. Bailey's basket was the closest Milligan had been to the lead since a Woods 3-pointer in front of the Milligan bench made it 69-66 with 2:52 to go.
ÂÂ
Bailey finished with seven points and eight rebounds, and all 11 Buffaloes who entered the game made it into the scoring column.
Gabriel Logan and
Milos Petrovic had 12 and eight off the bench, respectively.
ÂÂ
The hot hand that carried the Buffaloes through Friday night's game against Eastern Mennonite University cooled off in Saturday's first half, but the Buffaloes went 6-for-12 from downtown after the halftime break. Woods hit all three of his 3-pointers over the last 11 minutes.
ÂÂ
BC's Ed Reddick, the tournament MVP, led all scorers with 22 points while adding seven rebounds. Kyle Welty, who scored nine, was also on the all-tournament team for NCAA Division III Bridgewater.
ÂÂ
Milligan will close out the 2014 calendar year with one final road trip, traveling to Louisiana and Texas for exhibition games against University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Lamar University. The latter of the two will take place in Beaumont, Texas, roughly 15 miles from Woods' hometown of Port Arthur, Texas. Games are schedule for 8 p.m. ET tips on Wednesday, Dec. 17 and Friday, Dec. 19, respectively.
ÂÂ
The Buffs will start the new year with the continuation of the regular season in Waleska, Georgia, on Jan. 3 before returning home Jan. 10.
