Baseball pounds its way to doubleheader sweep

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 11, 2014) â€" Led by Chavez Golden's four-hit day, the Milligan College baseball team breezed through a doubleheader sweep of the Ohio State University at Mansfield 14-1 and 13-0 Tuesday evening at Anglin Field.

Golden was one of 13 Buffaloes to reach base via a hit and finished the day 4-for-5 with four RBI's and two runs.

Milligan (8-8, 2-4 AAC) was never in any trouble, limiting OSU Mansfield to three hits over 10 innings of action while enjoying its largest scoring outing since sweeping Johnson University in a similar fashion on Feb. 8.

The winning pitchers were Codie Campbell and Tanner Strange. Campbell threw two perfect innings to open up game one before allowing OSU to score in the top of the third without the aid of any hits. He finished with six K's in three innings and improved to 1-0.

Strange struck out seven over three shutout innings and would have kept the Mavericks hitless but allowed an inning to prolong on a dropped third strike in the third. He also improved to 1-0.

Other Buffaloes who had big days included Hunter Carpenter who was 2-for-2 with four RBI's and two runs in game one and Tyler Weir who was 3-for-5 with three RBI's and three runs in the two games combined.

Pending weather, Milligan will face OSU Mansfield Wednesday, March 12 in another doubleheader scheduled for 11 a.m.
