Softball drops two to North Greenville

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 11, 2014) â€" Six games over the last three days finally caught up to the Milligan College softball team as the Buffaloes fell twice to North Greenville University by scores of 9-1 and 6-5 at Anglin Field Tuesday.

After being run-ruled in game one, Milligan (5-8, 4-0 AAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two but saw its rally fall short on a play at the plate.

Krista Lambdin, who hit a walk-off single in Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Union, had the would-be game-tying hit in the seventh. With two out and runners on first and second in a 6-5 ballgame, Lambdin punched a single to center field that looked to score Natalie Sheffey from second, but NGU centerfielder Sarah Armstrong's throw was in time to nab her for the final out.

Sheffey, who reached on an RBI single to center two batters earlier, finished game two 2-for-2. She was one of four Buffaloes with two hits.

Starting pitcher Chancli Connatser tossed a complete game, striking out three and walking two but suffered her fourth loss of the season.

In game one, Milligan fell behind early and could never scratch its way back into it. North Greenville scored in each frame, including three runs in the fifth and final inning. Milligan scored its run in the bottom of the fifth when Jessica Goodson doubled to left-center to score Amanda Dunaway. Dunaway finished game one 1-for-1 with a run.

Milligan will be on the road over the weekend, traveling to conference foes St. Andrews University on Friday, March 14 and Tennessee Wesleyan Sunday, March 16.
