BRISTOL, Va. (March 26, 2014) â€" Freshman right-hander Kimberly Robinson became the first Milligan College pitcher to throw a perfect game since 2011 when she retired all 21 batters she faced in game one of an AAC doubleheader at Virginia Intermont College on Wednesday.
 
Milligan (13-8, 10-0 AAC) swept VI (19-14, 10-6 AAC) by scores of 2-0 and 13-3 to remain perfect in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Buffaloes also improved their winning streak to eight games.
 
Robinson (3-1) induced eight fly-outs and nine groundouts while punching out four en route to the first perfect game by a Milligan pitcher since Sidney Burns struck out 16 in a perfect game three years ago. Robinson threw seven pitches in the final frame, retiring the top of the Intermont order with a groundout to short, a fly-out to left, and a groundout to second.
 
"We've known all season how hard Kim works and the hours she's put into being better," Head Coach Wes Holly said about his freshman. "Today was evidence of her hard work and mental toughness."
 
Krista Lambdin provided Robinson with the offensive support, launching a two-run homer in the top of the third to break open the scoring.
 
Lambdin's homer was the first hit of the day for Milligan as VI's Michalah Sacre, a two-time AAC pitcher of the week this season, held Milligan to two hits and one earned run (two total). Sacre struck out five in the complete game but took the loss.
 
Robinson accounted for the other hit off Sacre in game one, singling to left to start a two-out rally where Milligan looked to put the game away in the sixth. The Buffaloes left three stranded in that inning.
 
Game two (13-3, Milligan)
 
Milligan's bats came to life in the second inning of the nightcap as Jessica Connatser and Caroline Testerman reached on bunts before Jessica Wheelock and Natalie Sheffey hit back-to-back two-out doubles to make it 3-0. Robinson punctuated the scoring outburst with a two-run homer to make it 5-0.
 
Robinson finished game two 4-for-4 with a walk.
 
After the five-run second inning, Milligan poured on four runs over the next four frames before punching four across in the top of the seventh. Wheelock and Sheffey added homers and finished game two 3-for-3 and 3-for-4, respectively.
 
Starting pitcher Chancli Connatser threw her seventh complete game of the season, striking out a season-high 10 while walking just one. She allowed seven hits and three earned runs and kept the Lady Cobras off the scoreboard until the fifth.
 
Milligan will look to keep its perfect conference record intact this weekend when the Buffs host Columbia College at Anglin Field on Sunday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
