WEST POINT, Ga. (March 31, 2014) â€"
Tyler Wilson turned in his third straight quality start to guide the Milligan College baseball team to a 5-1 game three victory against Point University on Monday afternoon.
ÂÂ
Milligan (16-11, 8-7 AAC) avoided the three-game series sweep and climbed to fourth place in Appalachian Athletic Conference standings. Point dropped to 17-18 (5-10 AAC).
ÂÂ
Wilson (4-2) struck out seven over seven frames while allowing only six hits, three walks and an earned run. The left-hander ran into bases loaded trouble in the fifth after a single, an error, a hit batter and a walk allowed Point to score its first run and cut Milligan's lead in half at 2-1. The Skyhawks loaded the bases again in the seventh courtesy a pair of hits and a walk, but Wilson again managed his way out of the jam.
ÂÂ
Codie Campbell pitched in Wilson's relief over the final two innings and struck out one while allowing no runs on one hit. Campbell was taken out of a would-be save situation when Milligan posted three runs in the top of the eighth to extend the lead to 5-1.
Edwin Soto and
Chavez Golden each had run-scoring hits in the inning: Soto's, a double, scored one before Golden's, a single, scored two.
ÂÂ
Soto and
Brandon Malone were 2-for-4 in the contest. Soto's other hit was an RBI-triple in the fourth which opened the game's scoring.
ÂÂ
Milligan will continue its current road slate with a midweek game at Bluefield College Thursday, April 3 at 4 p.m. The Buffs will then head to Bryan College for a three-game AAC series over the weekend.
