Baseball falls at Emory & Henry 9-4

EMORY, Va. (April 10, 2014) â€" Two weeks ago at Anglin Field, the Milligan College baseball team used a middle-inning rally to beat Emory & Henry College, but the Buffaloes, facing similar circumstances Thursday night on the road, could not duplicate the comeback and fell to the Wasps 9-4.

Emory & Henry (9-19) jumped on Milligan (17-15, 9-9 AAC) starting pitcher Hunter McDaniel with two runs in the bottom of the first after the Buffs managed to get two out with the bases clear. Connor Wise drove in each with a home run to left-center field.

Two innings later, Cody Hyder returned the favor with a solo shot, his third long ball in the last five games, to cut the lead in half. After exchanging runs over the next two innings, Emory & Henry posted three-spots in the fifth and seventh to put the game out of reach.

Brandon Malone, who drove in two with a ninth-inning double, finished the game 3-for-5. Other Buffs with multiple hits were Ernesto Fernandez and Hyder.

McDaniel (1-2) suffered the loss despite allowing only four hits and a walk in 4.1 innings.

Milligan will be at home over the weekend against Tennessee Wesleyan College. The three-game series is scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12 starting at 1 p.m. with a single game to follow Sunday at 2 p.m.
