Softball tames Lady Bears in twinbill sweep

CLEVELAND, Ga. (April 5, 2014) â€" In the final road conference series of the season, the Milligan College softball team swept Truett-McConnell College by scores of 4-1 and 15-3 on Saturday.

Milligan won its 11th game in the last 12 and improved to 16-9 (13-1 AAC). Truett-McConnell dropped to 10-31 (2-12 AAC).

Saturday's 15-run nightcap represented the most runs scored by Milligan in a single game since the team scored 19 runs in five innings against Bluefield in March 2012. It also was the seventh time Milligan scored 10 or more runs in a game this season.

Taylor McGinnis accounted for seven of the runs, going 3-for-3 with four RBI's and three runs scored. She was one of six Buffaloes to record multiple hits and finished game two a triple short of the cycle.

Milligan jumped on top of TMC with four runs in the first inning only to see the Lady Bears chip away with three of their own in the bottom half. Milligan then scored nine in the third and added a couple of consolation runs in the fifth.

Chancli Connatser (10-4) struck out six while allowing five hits, a walk and three earned runs in four innings on the way to her 10th winning decision this season. Jessica Goodson closed out the final inning, striking out one in a scoreless fifth.

Game one (4-1, Milligan)

Connatser threw five scoreless innings to open game one, and Samantha Mahala limited Truett-McConnell to one run in the final two innings as Milligan took a much narrower victory.

McGinnis scored one of Milligan's runs and drove in the other three as part of a 5-for-6, seven-RBI day. She was 2-for-3 in game one.

Milligan will turn around quickly for a nonconference doubleheader at Georgia Gwinnett College on Sunday, April 6 starting at 1 p.m. The Buffs are back home Wednesday, April 9 for the makeup against Columbia College.
