Volleyball falls short at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. (Sept. 17, 2014) â€" A fighting spirit wasn't enough as the Milligan College volleyball team fell to Emery and Henry tonight 3-0.

Milligan fell to 6-7 overall on the season in its final prep for Appalachian Athletic Conference action which starts this weekend.

The Buffs were left behind quickly in game one as the Wasps took an 11-4 lead. They would hold onto it for the rest of the match, defeating Milligan 25-14.

Game two would see the first lead by the Buffs (10-4), but two 5-plus runs would overtake them as they fell 25-20 to the Wasps.

The Buffs kept the score close in game three, but as the score stood 21-21, a three-point run and a kill from Anika Constantinescu ended the Buffs' chances of a come-back.

Junior Emilee Linkous led Milligan with nine kills on the day, and Marissa Langford, Samantha Bruinius and Bailey Thomas each recorded five or more kills of their own.

The Buffs return home, where their record stands at 5-1, for a weekend of conference play which begins with their first AAC match of the year against Bryan College. The match will take place on Friday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
