BLUEFIELD, Va. (Sept. 23, 2014) â€" The Bluefield College Rams were unable to stop the stampede of the Milligan College volleyball team as the Buffaloes won 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-19) Tuesday evening.
ÂÂ
Milligan improved to 8-8 overall on the season while also picking up its second win in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, moving them to 2-1 in the league.
ÂÂ
Bluefield came out strong, taking a 3-1 lead, but this was the largest lead the Lady Rams would take in the match. Milligan quickly tied the game at 6-6, and from there, the Buffaloes charged ahead to win game one 25-16.
ÂÂ
The Buffs stayed in charge for the rest of the night, never trailing by more than a point again. A six-point run and multiple three-point runs put the Buffs well in control in game two (25-12), and game three would be the same as the Buffs went on both a seven- and five-point run to take the game 25-19.
ÂÂ
Marissa Langford led the Buffs in kills with 13 and an attack percentage of .550, while
Samantha Bruinius recorded nine kills of her own.
Jessica Davenport recorded 31 assists on the 40 total kills of the Buffs, and
Charlie Bateman led the defense, getting a hand on half the blocks Milligan made (2).
ÂÂ
Milligan will return home to take on Columbia College on Friday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. and will also play at home on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. against St. Andrews University.
