MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 31, 2015) â€"
Alex Biggerstaff and
Gabriel Logan both scored in double figures and shot at least 50 percent from the field, but it wasn't enough as the Milligan College men's basketball team fell 107-73 to neighboring King University in an exhibition matchup Saturday at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
ÂÂ
Milligan, which will officially open the season on the road on Thursday, was paced by Biggerstaff, who will play in his first regular-season game in a Buffalo uniform next time out and finished with a game-high 25 points on 9-13 shooting from the field, including 7-9 from 3-point range.
ÂÂ
Logan finished 5-10 from the field, and had 11 points with six rebounds, while freshman
Will Buckner ended with nine points and a team-high seven boards.
James Songster also added seven rebounds for Milligan.
ÂÂ
The first half was a story of good defense and big runs for the Tornado, who down 5-0, struck back in a big way with an 18-2 run to take an 18-7 advantage seven minutes into the game, and never trailed from that point on. King was able to take advantage of four Milligan turnovers during the run, and forced the Buffs to 10 total takeaways in the half compared to five for King.
ÂÂ
Two free throws from Buckner cut the lead in half at 18-9, and later in the half, back-to-back 3-pointers from Biggerstaff made it 26-17 to get back within 10 at the 10-minute mark. Biggerstaff hit his first three of four total 3-point attempts on the half.
ÂÂ
King expanded its lead to 14 at 33-19 before buckets by Logan and
Milos Petrovic, who went 3-for-3 from the field in the game, got it back to 10. King then went on to close the half on another big run, this one a 15-8 stretch that made it 48-31 heading into the intermission.
ÂÂ
The second half began with an 8-2 King run to open the lead up to 23 at 56-33. Logan then attempted to get the Buffs back into the game with two 2-point buckets and a 3-pointer, all part of a 10-5 Milligan run that got in back under 20 at 61-43 with 15 minutes to play.
ÂÂ
However, the Tornado responded with back-to-back three's to all but put the game away.
ÂÂ
Milligan will next be in action with the regular-season opener on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. at Alice Lloyd College in Pippas Passes, Kentucky. The first home game of the regular season will be the following Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. against Emory & Henry College.
