Women's Basketball stays perfect with lopsided win

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 21, 2015) â€" In only the third home game of the season, the Milligan College women's basketball team stayed perfect with its eighth win by defeating St. Andrews University 84-48 Saturday afternoon at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

The Buffs continued their impressive win streak as they improved to 8-0 on the season, and 2-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, adding onto their best start to a season since the turn of the century and matching their best win streak since the fall of the 2010-11 season. St. Andrews fell to 2-5 on the season and 0-2 in the AAC.

Despite the Lady Knights keeping it close for much of the first half, the Buffs took control of the game with a 16-5 run in the last five minutes of the half. The run started with Hayley Wyrick driving in and drawing the foul, but not before finishing the lay-up, and ended with a jump shot in the paint from Courtney Wilson and a three pointer from Callie Cox within 20 seconds of each other. Milligan also outrebounded the Lady Knights 8-4 and forced two turnovers in the course of the run.

The Buffs did not slow down as they led by no less than 20 points for the final 14:20 and extended their lead to as many as 36 points by the end of the game to take the victory 84-48. This marked the third time the Buffs broke 80 points this season. As a team, Milligan forced St. Andrews into committing 20 turnovers on the game, with 13 of those steals by Milligan.

Milligan was led in scoring by Allison Jones, Sarah Robinson, and Morgan Gose, who recorded her career high, each with 10 points apiece. Robinson also led the Buffs in rebounds, along with Lindsee Price, with six, and is currently ranked fourth in the nation for total rebounds. Price also led the Buffs in assists with a career high of eight, and is ranked 34th in the nation for total assists.

Seniors Alana Artis and Alexis Redd led St. Andrews in scoring with a game-high 16 points, while Artis led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Buffs start a three-game road trip in Cleveland, Georgia, as they face the Lady Bears of Truett-McConnell on Tuesday, Nov. 24. The Buffs return home on Saturday, Dec. 5, to host Reinhardt University in a doubleheader with the men's team.
