Late push sends men's hoops to seventh straight win

CLEVELAND, Ga. (Nov. 24, 2015) â€" The last five minutes were dominated by the Milligan College men's basketball team as the Buffaloes stayed perfect with another road win Tuesday night, defeating Truett-McConnell College 70-63.
 
It was really a 90-second span beginning at the five-minute mark of the second half which saw Milligan pull away and improve to an Appalachian Athletic Conference best 7-0 (3-0 AAC). The Buffs went on a 9-1 run initiated by an Alex Biggerstaff 3-pointer which broke the ninth and final tie at the 5:03 mark. Julian Bailey and Kurt Brooks, the team's top scorers in the win, followed with points during the run as Milligan went out to its largest lead of eight with just over a minute and a half left.
 
Bailey and Brooks scored 18 and 17, respectively, while the former recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 15 rebounds. This was the second straight game Bailey reached 15 or more rebounds as his career high of 17 came in an AAC win over St. Andrews last weekend.
 
Sophomore David Casaday scored 10 on 4-of-6 shooting, including a 2-of-3 effort from 3-point territory. Casaday was one of 11 Buffs with a made field goal in the victory.
 
For Truett-McConnell (2-5, 0-2 AAC) Andretti Loyd led all scorers with 23 points and five rebounds. Darius McNear scored 12 points and added eight rebounds. The Bears were selected to finish as the AAC regular season runners-up according to the preseason coaches' poll. This was one spot ahead of where Milligan was selected.
 
Milligan will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday but turns around quickly for two games over the weekend in the DII Showcase tournament. The Buffs are scheduled to face No. 3 Davenport on Saturday, Nov. 28, followed by Rio Grande, a program receiving votes for the national top 25, on Sunday, Nov. 29. Game times are 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, at the MeadowView Marriott in Kingsport. The MeadowView will serve as the site of the AAC tournament at the end of this season.
