KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 2, 2015) â€" According to the first regular-season NAIA Men's and Women's Basketball Coaches' polls, both the Milligan College men and women are recognized as receiving votes in the national picture.
ÂÂ
The Milligan women (9-1) received 16 votes while the men (7-2) took home 15 votes.
ÂÂ
The women's team stampeded out of the gates to a 9-0 start, the program's best start since at least the turn of the century, before losing its first game of the season last Monday at St. Catharine College. The winning streak was also the Buffs' longest in the last eight seasons (2007-08).
ÂÂ
The men's team, meanwhile, returned to the national rankings after spending the majority of last January and February receiving votes. The Buffs started its 2015-16 season 7-0 for the second straight year before falling to No. 3 Davenport University and Rio Grande, who was receiving votes.
ÂÂ
Representing the Appalachian Athletic Conference, Milligan's men's team is the second highest recognized team from the AAC, trailing only No. 6 Union College, who moved up one spot after defeating Davenport last Sunday. Milligan's women's team is one of three AAC teams recognized in the top 25, as Bryan College landed the No. 19 spot and Point University is receiving votes.
ÂÂ
Next up, the Buffs travel to Waleska, Georgia, Wednesday, Dec. 2, for an AAC doubleheader with Reinhardt University. Milligan then returns home to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse for the final home games of the fall season, a doubleheader with Montreat College on Saturday, Dec. 5.
ÂÂ
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions. The next regular-season poll will be announced Dec. 8.
