BLUEFIELD, Va. (Feb. 19, 2015) -- The temperature outside Bluefield College's Dome Gymnasium was minus 1 at tip-off, but the Milligan College men's basketball team faced one of the hottest teams of the season Saturday night, and for the third game in a row, the Buffs came up short, 87-62 to the Rams in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Milligan (17-9, 11-6 AAC) had the game tied at 25-25 with seven minutes left in the first half but fell victim to a 19-6 Bluefield run that kept the Rams in the lead for good. Bluefield (11-13, 8-10 AAC) went 6-of-7 from the floor and 2-for-2 on 3-point attempts during that stretch then put together a similar run in the second half that put the game away.
ÂÂ
Mickey Woods led the Buffaloes with 20 points and five rebounds, marking the fifth time in the last six games reaching 20 or more points.
Morgan McLeod, who led the Buffs with 15 points and seven rebounds in a 67-49 victory over Bluefield at home earlier this season, was held to five points on four shots. McLeod picked up his fourth foul with 16 minutes left in regulation and fouled out with over five minutes left.
ÂÂ
Woods connected on three 3-point attempts in six tries, but the Buffs were 4-for-19 (21.1%) from long range in the loss.
ÂÂ
Bluefield was 29-of-54 (53.7%) from the field and 8-of-18 (44.4%) from three. The overall field goal percentage was the second highest percentage allowed this season by the Buffs defense. The overall 3-point percentage was the third highest allowed this season.
ÂÂ
For Bluefield, Kyle Grisby scored 21 points and added three assists and three steals. Zeke Williams scored 16, and the pair combined to go 5-of-8 from 3-point territory.
ÂÂ
Milligan will finish the regular season on Saturday at home against Montreat College, hoping to repeat a 96-71 victory the Buffs handed the Cavs on the road in January. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. after the women's game. Milligan can clinch the regular season runner-up and two seed for the league tournament next week with a win and a Truett-McConnell College loss. Truett gets Bryan at home on Saturday.
