MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 16, 2015) â€"
Josh Peterson and the Milligan College baseball team wrapped up a three-game sweep with a 5-3 victory over Truett-McConnell College Monday afternoon in an Appalachian Athletic Conference contest.
ÂÂ
Milligan (9-4, 4-3 AAC) won for the fifth time in the last six games and stayed perfect at 8-0 on Anglin Field. Truett-McConnell, which had won five of its last eight games entering the Milligan series and posted a win over No. 6 Georgia Gwinnett earlier this season, fell to 11-11 (3-3 AAC).
ÂÂ
Peterson (2-1) went the distance, tossing a nine-inning complete game where he scattered eight hits, a walk and an earned run while striking out three. The senior right-hander battled through a scoreless duel with TMC's Jared Oliver through the first six innings before a
Tyler Weir single scored
Nick Loughry for the game's first run. Peterson would give up a solo home run on the eighth pitch of Walker Caves' at-bat to lead off the top of the seventh, but the Buffs followed right back with four runs in the bottom half to secure the victory.
ÂÂ
Hunter Suggs got the final surge going with an RBI ground ball that scored
Sam Tarlton from third to give the Buffs a lead they did not relinquish. A
Nate Clifton sac fly, Loughry double and Weir single all added to the seventh inning lead. Loughry's double, which missed a two-run homer by only a few feet, came with two out in a 3-1 game and helped Milligan avoid TMC's two-run rally, aided by a Milligan error, in the eighth.
ÂÂ
Loughry finished the game 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Weir was 2-for-4 with two RBI's.
ÂÂ
Milligan's upcoming schedule is loaded with doubleheaders as the Buffaloes host University of the Cumberlands Tuesday at 3 p.m. and Tennessee Temple University Wednesday at 2 p.m. before traveling to Reinhardt on Saturday-Sunday for another three-game AAC set.
