Tennis drops AAC matches to Reinhardt

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (March 18, 2015) â€" Jackson Lenoir and Abigail Allen came away with singles victories at three singles, but the Milligan College men's and women's tennis teams lost to Reinhardt University overall, 8-1 and 7-2 respectively, on Wednesday at the Mathes Tennis Center.

The pair won in straight sets with 6-2, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-3 wins for their third victories at singles this season as the Buffaloes moved to 1-5 and 2-5 overall. Milligan's other point was won at one doubles with Rachel Hodas and Sarah Rainwater winning 8-6 over Reinhardt's Alyssa Kroll and Paula Puentes. For Hodas and Rainwater, it was a repeat effort from last season's conference tournament when they shared a victory over the same pair, though split across courts one and two and playing with other doubles partners.

Milligan defeated the Eagles for the second time of the season in last year's AAC tournament, but Wednesday's loss snapped a streak of nine straight league wins, dating back to midway through the 2013 season.

Caroline Morelli and Martha Wells pushed their singles matches to a third set but fell narrowly. Morelli's loss came despite regrouping from a first-set tiebreak loss to win the second set 6-3. She fell in the third 7-5. Similarly, Wells regrouped after the first set with a 7-6 win in set two, but the junior lost the deciding set 6-3.

Matias Yanez and Fernando Gonzalez, on the men's side, also lost in three sets. Both opened the match strong to take the opening set, but Yanez lost the deciding set 6-3 and Gonzalez's match was shortened to a super tiebreaker for the final set. Gonzalez lost it 10-8.

Milligan's schedule continues with several more home matches this week. Both the men's and women's teams will be back at the Mathes Tennis Center on Friday and Sunday for meetings with Bluefield and UVa-Wise. Those matches start at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, and the women will host Columbia on Saturday at 2 p.m.
