COLUMBIA, Ky. (April 21, 2015) â€" Extra-base hits in the first few innings of the opener put the Milligan College baseball team on top, but Lindsey Wilson College took both games of a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader, 6-2 and 9-0, at Egnew Park.
ÂÂ
Nate Clifton sent a leadoff triple to right field on the fourth pitch of the game before scoring on a
Tyler Weir single on the sixth pitch of the game, and
Brandon Malone hit his third home run of the season in the third inning as the Buffs went up 2-0. But it was all Lindsey Wilson from there.
ÂÂ
The Blue Raiders, 30-17 overall and receivers of votes in the NAIA national top-25 poll, scored two runs in the fourth to tie, two in the fifth to take the lead, and two in the sixth to pad it. They followed with a run in the first inning of game two and posted big innings in the second and third to put the doubleheader away.
ÂÂ
Clifton finished with two hits in game one while
Andrew Copas recorded a multihit effort in game two.
Hunter McDaniel, the starting pitcher in the opener, allowed just one earned run over 4 1/3 innings but suffered the loss.
ÂÂ
Milligan (21-17, 13-11 AAC) continues the season on Wednesday with another road doubleheader, facing University of the Cumberlands at 2 p.m. The regular season will conclude for the Buffs on Friday-Saturday with a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series at nearby Montreat College.
