Softball unable to continue upset-streak in AAC tournament

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 21, 2015) â€" Upsets were the norm for the first two games of the Appalachian Athletic Conference softball tournament, but the Milligan College softball team was unable to find an upset of their own as they lost to Bryan College 10-0 on Tuesday evening.

With (8) Columbia defeating (1) Reinhardt and (5) St. Andrews stopping (4) Union, the stage was set for the number-seven seated Buffs to upset Bryan College who was the number two seed and was receiving votes in the national poll.

However, solid pitching from Kaitie Sims, the AAC Pitcher of the Year, doomed Milligan to only one hit over five innings. That hit came in the form of a double to deep left-center from Makenzie Lilley in the top of the fifth, but a strikeout and a pop-up in foul territory left her stranded at second.

The Lions scored a run in every inning except the second, ending the game with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

Milligan will compete again tomorrow against the losing team of the Tennessee Wesleyan and Truett-McConnell game set to take place later Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in the second game of the day.
