Baseball finishes season in victory

MONTREAT, N.C. (April 28, 2015) â€" Chavez Golden hit his second home run of the season to boost the Milligan College baseball team past Montreat College, 10-4, and to a sweep of the series in the regular season finale Tuesday afternoon.

Milligan (24-19, 16-11 AAC) will await seeding for the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament, set to take place Monday-Thursday, May 4-7, at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport. The Buffaloes are currently fourth place in the AAC, but only one school has more league wins.

Golden provided the offensive spark in the form of a three-run blast to deep left field which blew the game open. Previously, Milligan had taken a 4-1 lead only to see Montreat claw back to tie it 4-4.

Golden's homer was one of 14 hits posted by the Buffs as Josh Peterson, Brandon Malone and Sam Tarlton all had multiple hits. Golden recorded four RBI's.

Austin Perry collected the win after going six innings and allowing only three earned runs. Wyatt Richardson, Corey Jenkins and Justin Freeman all worked relief roles without conceding an earned run.

Milligan's regular season is over, but the Buffaloes will continue into the postseason next week with the double-elimination tournament set to take place in Kingsport. Full bracket and game time information will be released by the AAC once all regular season competitions have been completed.
