KINGSPORT, Tenn. (May 6, 2015) -- One bad inning was the difference once again Wednesday afternoon at Hunter Wright Stadium as the Milligan College baseball team suffered elimination from the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament with a 6-1 loss to Point University.
ÂÂ
Milligan ended its season with a record of 25-21 (16-11 AAC).
ÂÂ
Milligan and Point battled through three scoreless innings to start the game off before Skyhawk right fielder Anthony Padron sent a solo home run over the centerfield fence to start the scoring with two out in the fourth inning. Until that point, starting pitcher
Jake Watts had allowed a base runner past first in only one inning and retired five of the previous six batters he faced.
ÂÂ
Padron's home run opened the gates for Point the following inning as the Skyhawks tallied four more runs on four hits and a walk in the fifth.
ÂÂ
Brandon Malone put the Buffs on the board in the top of the sixth with a two-out double to deep left-center that scored
Edwin Soto from first. Soto had reached with an infield single in the previous at-bat.
ÂÂ
Milligan threated again in the eighth when seniors
Sam Tarlton and
Tyler Weir reached base with one out, but the inning ended on a double play.
ÂÂ
Weir and
Josh Peterson paced the Milligan offense with 2-for-4 efforts from the dish. Soto and Malone were each 1-for-4, and Tarlton finished 1-for-2 with a walk.
