Logan's career high, Casaday's hot shooting give Buffs win at St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. (Jan. 16, 2016) â€" Gabriel Logan and David Casaday combined for 34 points off the bench and the Milligan College men's basketball team secured a 77-70 victory over St. Andrews University on the road Saturday afternoon.

Logan scored a career-high 19 points and Casaday was 5-of-9 from three as Milligan improved to 11-6 (7-4 AAC) and dropped St. Andrews to 8-9 (4-6 AAC).

The win gave Milligan the season sweep of St. Andrews as the Buffs were victorious 79-78 at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse earlier this season in Head Coach Bill Robinson's 100th coaching win at Milligan. Seniors Julian Bailey and Kurt Brooks combined for 40 points in that one, with Brooks making the game-winning free throw with 8.9 seconds left in regulation.

Saturday afternoon at SAU, the senior pair combined for 30, and Brooks made five free throws in the last 35 seconds to help seal the win. After St. Andrews used a 15-0 run to take their last lead of the game at 56-55 with six and a half minutes to go, Milligan responded with a 12-2 run over the next three and a half minutes to all but put the game out of reach.

St. Andrews cut it back to within four and had the ball with under a minute to go, and the Knights also got it to three with under 30 seconds to go, but Brooks answered at the free throw line both times.

Brooks was 5-for-6 from the charity stripe in the final 35 seconds, 9-for-10 for the game, and finished with 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. It was the third time in the last four games Brooks reached the 20-point barrier, and the senior is averaging 21 points per game since returning from Christmas break.

Behind the trio of Brooks, Logan and Casaday, Bailey was next in the scoring column with 10 points and 18 rebounds, his seventh straight and AAC-leading 12th double-double of the season. While Brooks has been pouring in the scoring, Bailey has been all over the boards, averaging 15.8 rebounds per game in the new year. Bailey has double-digit rebounds in the last seven games, and he has 37 rebounds in two games this week.

As a team, Milligan shot 26-of-57 (45.6%) from the floor against St. Andrews on Saturday, and the Buffs were 8-of-16 from the perimeter. Casaday accounted for five of those while Brooks, Jacob Cawood and Logan made one apiece.

Logan's 19 points were three better than his previous career high which he set in a road win against Alice Lloyd College in the Buffs season opener. Casaday's 15 points were two off the freshman's career high, which he has done twice this season including earlier this week in the overtime game against Reinhardt.

For St. Andrews, Kwasean McCaskell registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Quentin Duncan scored 17 and added seven rebounds.

Milligan is back home on Thursday, Jan. 21, for a matchup with No. 21 Tennessee Wesleyan College (14-1, 8-1 AAC). TWC is currently the league frontrunner whose only AAC loss this season came at home to the Buffs, 86-85 in overtime.
