Men's basketball drops season opener on road

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (Oct. 27, 2016) â€" Milligan College's men's basketball team opened its 2016-2017 campaign on the road Thursday night at the University of the Cumberlands. A slow first half doomed the Buffaloes, and resulted in an 80-56 loss.
 
Milligan (0-1, 0-0 AAC) struggled early on and fell behind 19-5 in the opening minutes. The University of the Cumberlands couldn't miss in the first half and made 57% of its shots which created at 51-24 lead at the half.
 
Despite trailing by 30 at one point, the Buffaloes remained competitive and cut the deficit down to 19. Milligan's shooting improved from 38% shooting in the first half to 44% in the second and outscored the Patriots 32-29 in the second.
 
Sophomore Will Buckner led all players with 16 points, followed by fellow classmate Tyler Nichols with 14 points. Coming off the bench, Tyler Faulkenberry made three three-point shots, most on the team.
 
The Buffaloes return to action next Tuesday in an exhibition against Lenoir-Rhyne University. Their home opener is next Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. against Alice Lloyd College.
