Baseball leads early but falls to Truett in series opener

CLEVELAND, Ga. (March 10, 2016) â€" The Milligan College baseball team's five-game winning streak ended Thursday evening at the hands of Truett-McConnell College in the form of a 6-5 loss to open a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series.
 
Milligan (10-11, 3-1 AAC) scored first and led by as many as four runs in the sixth inning, but Truett-McConnell (15-8, 3-1 AAC) punched across five unanswered runs to take early control of the series. The loss snapped Milligan's five-game winning streak, during which time the Buffs had scored more than five runs four times and more than 10 runs twice.
 
Austin Perry went through the first six innings allowing only three runs but was tagged for three more before he could get the second out in the seventh. Jacob Littleton entered in relief and finished the final 1.2 innings, allowing no hits and no walks to close things out.
 
Perry struck out seven and walked none while conceding 10 hits and six total runs, four of which were earned. His counterpart Luke Henderson was just a little better, going seven innings while allowing 12 hits and five earned runs. Henderson struck out six and walked none.
 
Shane Salley and Thomas Miller led the Buffs at the dish, each with a three-hit effort. Salley was 3-for-5 with a run and Miller was 3-for-4 with a run. Bryan Soto and Justin Pearson also finished with multiple hits.
 
Milligan and Truett-McConnell will finish the series with a doubleheader on Friday, March 11, beginning at 12 p.m. After that, the Buffs will be on the road for an AAC series with Bluefield over next weekend before returning home for Reinhardt University on Friday-Saturday, March 25-26.
