Baseball drops pair to close out Point series

WEST POINT, Ga. (April 17, 2016) â€" A cold offense and a couple of bad innings on defense saw the Milligan College baseball team lose both games of an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Point University. Milligan lost 4-0 and 6-1 as Point closed out the series sweep.

In game one, Point did all the scoring in the fourth inning, hitting a one-out home run to score two and later stringing together three straight hits and a squeeze play which rounded out the scoring. Austin Perry was tagged the loss despite throwing six innings with eight hits, four earned runs, a walk and two strikeouts.

It was close to the same story in game two as Point scored all its runs in two innings and limited the Buffs to only one run which came in the third. Point scored three times in the second without the aid of any hits, then scored three more times in the sixth on only one hit. Milligan held the Skyhawks to four hits over the seven innings of action but Codie Campbell suffered the loss.

Campbell surrendered a hit and three runs (two earned) in 1.1 innings while Jacob Littleton saw the most time out of the bullpen. Littleton threw 4.1 innings and gave up three hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out four.

Milligan's lone run of the day came off the bat of Thomas Miller whose groundout to short with one out in the third brought home Blake Dutton. Dutton was 2-for-3 in both games.

Next up, Milligan will be at home on Tuesday, April 19, for a nonconference doubleheader against University of the Cumberlands. After that, the Buffs only have two more dates at home, both featuring No. 6 Tennessee Wesleyan College in the final series of the AAC season.
