Pearson brings in four RBI's, but baseball drops doubleheader to No. 20 Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. (April 2, 2016) â€" After Shane Salley hit his first home run of the season against the Lions on Friday, Justin Pearson did the same on Saturday, hitting a three-run shot to give the Buffaloes a 3-0 lead in game one, but that would be nearly all of the scoring for the Milligan College baseball team as it fell to No. 20 Bryan College 6-3 and 8-1.

Pearson's homer in the top of the fourth brought in Salley and Thomas Miller, who both singled in the inning. Salley was 2-for-3 in game one and Miller was 2-for-3 in the second game, while Pearson had four runs batted in on the day with a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth in game two.

Corey Jenkins fell under .500 on the mound with his second loss of the season, but was strong early in the first game with five innings of scoreless baseball and only four hits allowed until he was chased in the sixth. The Lions would score all of their runs in the inning, starting a rally with two out and a runner on third, who reached earlier on a hit by pitch.

After the sweep, Milligan's record fell to 15-17 overall and 8-7 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference as the Buffs dropped out of a three-way tie for second in the standings. Bryan's record rose to 28-9 and 11-4, and a conference-best win total in both categories. With last season's sweep over the Lions, the Buffs had previously won four straight games over Bryan, who right now is on a five-game winning streak after winning nine consecutive games in the middle of March.

The Buffs look to get back on track by playing at the University of Rio Grande in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6. Milligan returns home to Anglin Field, where it has won seven of its last eight games, for a three-game series with Union College on Saturday-Sunday, April 9-10.
