PITTSBURGH, Pa. (April 27, 2016) â€"
Blake Dutton hit a couple of home runs,
Shane Salley had three hits, and the Milligan College baseball team won one and lost one at Point Park University on Wednesday. Milligan won game one 4-2 before falling in game two 7-5.
ÂÂ
Dutton's home runs spanned both games, as did Salley's three hits, and the pair was a big part of the victory in game one. Salley got a rally going right off the bat with a single in the top of the first inning and was followed by a
Bryan Soto single which put two on with two out.
Tanner Peer then put the Buffs on the scoreboard with a two-RBI double to make it 2-0.
ÂÂ
Milligan (20-27, 9-15 AAC) held the 2-0 lead until Point Park evened it up in the bottom of the fifth, then it was Soto who started a one-out rally to put Milligan back on top in the sixth. Soto singled, Peer singled, then Soto came around to score on a
Braden Jones RBI. Dutton's first home run of the day made it 4-2 and capped off the scoring in the seventh inning of the opening game.
ÂÂ
Dutton made a big impact early on in game two, smacking his second home run of the day, and second of the season, with two out in the second. His long ball scored
Hunter Suggs and
Tucker McPherson and put an exclamation point on a four-run inning where the Buffs went up 4-0.
ÂÂ
Milligan expanded the lead to 5-0 in the third, but Point Park battled back with five runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Reid Kocher was dealt the loss in a middle relief role, his first decision of the season.
ÂÂ
Wyatt Richardson got the win in game one, going five innings with 11 hits, two earned runs, a walk and a strikeout. He improved to 2-2 while
Jacob Littleton earned his sixth save of the season.
ÂÂ
Soto and Peer both had multiple hits in game one, while Salley had multiple hits in game two. Dutton combined for a 2-for-6 effort with two runs and four RBI's. ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Milligan will be home for the final series of the season, a three-game set with No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan College over the upcoming weekend. Weather pending, the Buffs will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 30, and a single game on Sunday, May 1. Both dates are currently set for 1 p.m. starts.
