Salley, Perry named All-AAC second team

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (May 9, 2016) â€" The 2016 Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball postseason awards have been announced by the league office, and Milligan College's Shane Salley and Austin Perry were each named to the All-AAC second team, while Perry added a nod to the Gold Glove Team.

Salley, a senior outfielder from Smithville, Tennessee, was second on the Buffs and 15th in the conference with a .338 batting average during the regular season, and was first on the team in hits (54), doubles (14), runs batted in (28) and total bases (71). He was also second on the team with 26 runs scored, 21 walks, a slugging percentage of .444 and an on-base percentage of .435.

Perry, a sophomore starting pitcher from Shelbyville, Kentucky, led the Buffs starting rotation all season long. He finished second on the team, first among starters, and 13th in the AAC with an earned run average of 3.95, and also led the squad with seven wins, 55 strikeouts and an impressive six shutouts. Perry held opponents to only a .272 batting average, which was 14th best in the conference, over 79.2 innings pitched and 13 starts.

Perry was a work horse all year, ranking third in the AAC in innings pitched per game and fourth in both wins and total innings worked. He added conference rankings of 12th in walks allowed per game, 13th in strikeouts, 14th in earned runs allowed, and 16th in hits allowed per game. Defensively, Perry posted a 1.000 fielding percentage, and led all Buffs pitchers with 22 assists.

In addition to Salley's and Perry's honors, Nelson Schneider earned a spot on the Champions of Character Team, and Dustin Cole, Carlos Cueto, Tucker McPherson, Justin Pearson and Bryan Soto were each named All-Academic.
