MONTREAT, N.C. (Aug. 21, 2016) â€" Milligan College's women's volleyball team wrapped up its weekend at Montreat College with a matchup against the Keiser University Seahawks on Sunday. The Buffaloes struggled early on and were swept in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-14).
Milligan (1-2, 0-0 AAC) dropped a tight first set. The Buffaloes trailed most of the set but remained within striking distance. Trailing 15-11, kills from
Kellee Geren,
Bailey Thomas, and
Charlie Bateman helped tie things up at 17 apiece. However, Keiser responded with four points in a row and closed out the set on a 7-2 run.
The second set started close, with three ties and two lead changes leading up to the 7-7 mark before Keiser took the lead for good. Just like the first set, Milligan kept the deficit small, but never fully came back and lost the set 25-21.
The third set looked promising for Milligan. The Buffaloes held a small lead for the majority of the first half of the set. Thanks to six kills assisted by Geren, Milligan led 10-9 before Keiser retook the lead and closed out the Buffaloes 25-14.
Geren played a solid game, racking up 23 assists and five kills of her own. Senior
