Women's basketball takes down Knights

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Jan. 14, 2017)- Unselfish play and stellar defense extended the Milligan College women's basketball team's win streak as they took down the St. Andrews Knights 95-70 Saturday afternoon.

Milligan improved to 9-4 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (13-7 overall) after picking up their second win in a row. The Buffs remain one game behind conference leader Reinhardt. St. Andrews fell to 1-11 in the Appalachian Athletic conference (4-13 overall).

The Buffs took the lead two minutes into the game after Mackenzie Raizor finished a lay-up from a pass from Sarah Robinson. From then, the Buffs did not let up, jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. St. Andrews only trailed by less than 10 late in the first quarter, but the Buffs maintained a double digit lead for the rest of the game.

The unselfish play from Lindsee Price and Robinson proved to be the winning combination as they recorded nine and six assists respectively, with only one turnover between the two of them.

Collectively, Milligan held the St. Andrews Knights to only nine points in the first quarter and forced 11 turnovers to five by the end of the half, and forcing 15 by the end of the game.

The Buffs were led in scoring by both Robinson and Raizor with 15 points apiece. Hayley Wyrick and Savannah Raizor were the only other Buffs to reach double-digits with 11 and 10 respectively. M. Raizor led the Buffs in rebounds with nine, followed by Robinson with seven.

St. Andrews' LeeAysia Williamson led the Knights in scoring and rebounds with a game-high 31 points and eight rebounds. Taylor Sehm-Crowley also reached double-digits, finishing the game with 14 points.

Milligan goes on the road to Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Jan. 18, before returning home to host Columbia College on Saturday, Jan. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
