MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2017) â€" The Milligan College women's soccer team battled another Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bryan College Tuesday evening on Anglin Field. Under rainy conditions and a back and forth effort, a late goal gave the Buffaloes their second overall and first conference loss of the season (3-2).
The Bryan Lions got the scoring going first at the 26th minute with a goal that followed a corner kick. It only took six minutes for Milligan to battle back with a goal connected by sophomore Bekah Cundiff following a missed shot by freshman Ellie Cachiaras that was saved by Bryan's goalkeeper Morgana Hardt da Silva. A minute and a half later junior Holley Kegley found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal putting Milligan at a 2-1 advantage at the half despite being outshot 6-10.
With the momentum the Buffs came back out ready to attack in the second half getting off six shots in comparison to the Lions' seven. At the 54th minute Bryan tied the game at 2 apiece off of a free kick. Milligan responded challenging Bryan's defense shooting six times with the match tied. However, the Lions connected for the winning goal in the final eight minutes securing the first AAC defeat against the Buffaloes.
Milligan, which is receiving votes in the latest NAIA top 25 poll, was led by Cundiff and Cachiaras with three shots apiece. Sophomore Alyson McMillan added two shots for Milligan.? Freshman goalkeeper Eva Bower earned three crucial saves.
Up next, the Buffs compete in more AAC action on Anglin Field on Saturday, Oct. 14, against Truett-McConnell University. The match time is set at 3 p.m.
