Alyssa Rupert reached a milestone of 1,000 digs Tuesday night as the Milligan College women's volleyball team swept Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bluefield College (25-17, 25-12, 25-18). Milligan was defeated in the same fashion earlier in the season but bounced back for a big conference win continuing the Buffaloes' six game winning streak.
The Buffs were led by senior
Marissa Langford with 16 kills and by freshman
Julia Codispoti with 14 kills. Senior
Alora Ricker led Milligan with a total of 15 digs while Rupert tallied 13 digs. Junior
Rebecca Maxwell added nine digs for the Buffs. Sophomore
Kellee Geren earned 32 assists on the night while also adding four kills.
Despite the Rams earning the first two points of the first set, Milligan went on a 9-0 run to follow and did not let Bluefield come within more than four points of them the rest of the game. While the Buffs outkilled the Rams 15-10, point 25 of game one was taken by a Codispoti kill. Furthermore, in game two Milligan came back out ready to attack earning five more kills than Bluefield. Milligan went on a 6-0, 5-0 and another 5-0 run up until point 25 keeping the Rams at just 12 points.
The third game was much different than the first two as both teams went toe-to-toe up until the score read 11-10 and from then on the Buffs took off securing the 3-0 defeat of Bluefield. Overall, Milligan earned five more team blocks than the Rams (8-3).
Up next, the Buffs compete against another AAC foe St. Andrews University in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m.
