Buffs hit century mark in rout of Columbia

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Nov. 28, 2017) â€" Six Buffs were in double figures for scoring as the Milligan College women's basketball team ran away with a 104-55 victory over Columbia College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game Tuesday night at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

Milligan (6-4, 3-2 AAC) finished the 2017 home leg of the season undefeated on its own court at 4-0. The Buffs averaged 86.3 points per game in those four games and won each by double figures.

GAME-CHANGING RUN
Columbia's Alana Weyer scored the first bucket of the game from the elbow on the Koalas' first possession, but it was nearly all Buffaloes the rest of the first quarter. Morgan Gose scored a tough layup less than a minute later to start a 26-0 run, and Milligan led 29-4 after the first 10 minutes.

During the run, junior Sarah Robinson scored eight points, Gose scored five, and Courtney Wilson and Mackenzie Raizor recorded back-to-back and-ones, the latter of which made it a 20-point game.

CATCHING FIRE IN THE SECOND QUARTER
Whereas Wilson and Raizor made back-to-back old-fashioned 3-point plays late in the first quarter, the Buffs had a couple of sequences of back-to-back 3-pointers in the second. Cassidy Anderson and Emily Kiser hit back-to-back triples to make it a 32-point game, 41-12, midway through the second quarter, then Gose and Anderson went back-to-back two minutes later to make it 52-17.

Anderson finished 4-for-4 from behind the arc, and Milligan was 12-for-31 (38.7 percent) from long range in the win. Kiser was 4-for-8 from distance.

HITTING THE CENTURY MARK
Two made free throws by Savannah Raizor with two minutes left gave Milligan 100 points, marking the first time since 2011 the Buffs reached 100 in a game. The last time was in an AAC game against Union College in which the Buffs scored 101. Milligan's 104 on Tuesday was the highest scoring output by a Milligan offense since Jan. 3, 2008, when Milligan hit 111 in a loss to Berea College.

STATISTICAL LEADERS
Kiser led the Buffs with 16 points off the bench while Anderson and Gose followed with 12, Kaely Gose scored 11, and Wilson scored 10. Eight others were in the scoring column for a total of 14 Buffs to score points in the victory.

Wilson led the Buffs in rebounding with five while Robinson finished with four rebounds and a game high four assists. Freshman Teal Davis also had four rebounds alongside three steals.

Columbia (0-7, 0-5 AAC), entering the evening fresh off a nine-point loss at home to No. 18 Reinhardt, was led by Denijah Johnson with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Victoria Williams chipped in with 10 points.
