Buffs rally but fall in exhibition at Troy

TROY, Ala. (Dec. 21, 2017) â€" David Casaday led the Milligan College men's basketball team with 16 points on the road in an exhibition game against Troy University on Thursday evening. The Buffs (4-9) fell to the Knights (6-7), 80-67. Earlier in the season Troy lost to No. 8 University of Kentucky by just eight points.
 
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Buffs kept within two points of the Knights nine minutes into the game after a Tyler Faulkenberry 3-pointer. However, the Knights pulled away putting up 46 points in the first 20 minutes of play putting them at a 16-point deficit at the half (46-30).
 
Nevertheless, Milligan came out ready to rally. David Casaday immediately drained a 3-pointer 30 seconds into the second half. After a couple of made free throws by Will Robinson, an Aaron Levarity dunk, a Daxton Bostian 3-pointer and a layup by Mike Featherston, the Buffs came within five points of the Knights with 12 minutes left in the game. Milligan kept within single digits until Troy capitalized off of a 3-pointer with 9:54 remaining.
 
The Knights went on to lead by as much as 16 points but the Buffs fought to minimize the deficit. Milligan made five 3-pointers in the final six minutes but it proved not enough as Troy secured their victory over the Buffs with two free throws, 80-67.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS
While Casaday added five rebounds and three assists to his 16 points, Bostian followed with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Will Buckner earned 10 points while Levarity and Faulkenberry earned eight apiece. Levarity led with 11 rebounds.
 
Troy had four players earn double-digit points. Wesley Person led with 23 points while Juan Davis Jr. and B.J. Miller earned 13 apiece. Alex Hicks was the leading rebounder with 12 and Davis followed with 10.

The Buffs play their final exhibition game of the four-game streak on Saturday, Dec. 30, at the UVA-Wise at 7:30 p.m. Milligan returns home to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Jan. 2, against Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Bryan College. Game time is set at 7:30 p.m.
