WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 11, 2017) â€"
Sarah Robinson scored two baskets in the final 90 seconds of regulation to help the Milligan College women's basketball team finish on a 5-0 run and defeat Point University 64-60 Saturday afternoon in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game.
ÂÂ
The 5-0 run was part of an 18-7 run Milligan used to close the game over the last eight minutes. Robinson made a 2-pointer, assisted by
Kelly Barnett, with a little over one minute left to put Milligan (20-8, 16-4 AAC) on top 61-60. She then hit a 3-pointer with under 30 seconds left to help put the game out of reach.
ÂÂ
The win weighed heavily on conference standings as second-ranked Milligan needed a win to keep pace with Reinhardt, who owns a half-game lead at the top of the AAC. It also helped Milligan create more separation over Point, who entering Saturday was only a game back of Milligan.
ÂÂ
Milligan now holds a two-game lead over third-place Point, but the Buffs will need help in order to catch first-place Reinhardt, who can win the AAC regular season by winning each of its last three games.
ÂÂ
Robinson finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds, one of three Buffs in double figures for scoring.
Hayley Wyrick (19 points, four assists) and Barnett (11 points, four rebounds, four assists) were the others.
Lindsee Price tallied nine points and three assists while
Courtney Wilson had eight points and five rebounds off the bench. ÂÂ
ÂÂ
Milligan trailed for most of the first half and faced a seven-point deficit, 35-28, after the first possession of the second half. The Buffs, however, responded with a 9-0 run featuring six points from Robinson to take the lead. From there, the game went back and forth once again until Point eventually build its lead back up to seven, 53-46. Milligan then finished strong on the 18-7 run.
ÂÂ
Point, which handed Milligan a 61-57 loss at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Jan. 9, was led by Courtney White who scored 16 points off the bench. Deja Smith scored 10, and Brianna Jones had six points and 10 assists.
ÂÂ
Milligan returns to the court for its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 15, when the Buffs host Bryan College in a women's and men's doubleheader. Opening tip for the women's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
