Game Recap: Softball |

Softball comes up short twice at Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. (March 17, 2017) â€" Kimberly Robinson pitched a one-hitter in game one, but the Milligan College softball team fell twice at Bryan College, 1-0 and 9-1, Friday night on the road in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Robinson indeed pitched a gem in the opening game, going all six innings with one hit, two walks and five strikeouts, but she suffered the loss as a sixth-inning solo homer from Bryan's Becca Zimmerman proved to be the game's only scoring. Previously Robinson had faced only five over the minimum through the first five and one-third innings, and she finished the bottom of the sixth getting the last two outs on two pitches.

Milligan (8-13, 3-7 AAC) had its chances to score but came up empty at each. The Buffs had two on with one out in the first and sixth innings; Rachel Coffey hit a two-out triple in the fourth; and they had a runner on third with only one out in the fifth but never could push a run across.

Madison Grindstaff got Milligan on the board in the fourth inning of game two with a game-tying single down the right field line, but it rounded out the scoring for the Buffs for the rest of the day. Grindstaff's single scored Kirstan Beaver, who had walked, from second, tying the game at 1-1 midway through the fourth inning.

Bryan (10-10, 4-0 AAC) responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back, then two more in the fifth before opening the game up with five runs in the sixth.

Next up, Milligan will face AAC foe St. Andrews University on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. on Anglin Field.
