KINGSPORT, Tenn. (April 26, 2017) â€" Senior
Kimberly Robinson pitched a two-hit shutout, while seniors
Kacie Skeen and
Ashley Arnold accounted for four RBI's, all leading the Milligan College softball team to a 4-0 upset over second-seeded Bryan College Wednesday evening in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament.
ÂÂ
Robinson (13-5) matched her career high with nine strikeouts and walked only one in the seven-inning complete game. Outside of a couple of Milligan errors in the first inning, she did not allow a runner past first, and at one point the Vilas, North Carolina, native retired 11 straight Lions batters.
ÂÂ
Skeen and Arnold gave Robinson all the run support she would need and more, scoring in both the first and last inning. Skeen put the Buffs on the board with a one-out single up the middle to drive in Robinson and
Jenna Gilbert who had led the first inning off with singles. Both offenses then remained quiet until another Skeen single, this one to left field, brought home another run to make it 3-0 in the top of the seventh. Arnold made it a 4-0 game two batters later on a squeeze bunt which scored
Erica Roller.
ÂÂ
In the bottom of the seventh, Robinson allowed only her second hit of the day before retiring the last three Lions in order, striking out two of them.
ÂÂ
Skeen and Gilbert led Milligan offensively with two-hit efforts, both going 2-for-4. Skeen provided three RBI's while Gilbert scored two runs.
ÂÂ
Milligan continues the AAC tournament on Thursday with a matchup versus either Union or Truett-McConnell in the winners bracket. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Brickyard Park in Kingsport. A win Thursday would mean the Buffs would play Friday at 3 p.m. A loss Thursday and the Buffs would play Friday at 1 p.m.
