SAVANNAH, Ga. (Aug. 21, 2017) â€"
Jesse Ramoya struck first and
Jack Allan scored twice in the second half, but the rally fell short for the Milligan College men's soccer team as the Buffs suffered their first loss of the season, 4-3, against SCAD Savannah on the road on Monday.
ÂÂ
Milligan (0-1-1) battled back from a 1-0 deficit to tie and a 4-1 deficit to make it 4-3 but ultimately fell short. Ramoya had the first goal following an Allan corner kick in the 13th minute of the game after a headed pass from
Noah Hickerson. The goal tied the game at 1-1 but SCAD extended its lead to 4-1 at the half.
ÂÂ
"We got a little disorganized and had too many holes defensively in the second portion of the first half," Head Coach
Adam Laney said after the game. "Up to (SCAD's second goal) we were competing well and preventing them from getting in dangerous places, but from that second goal through halftime, we were just a little disorganized. In the second half, we came out and played the way we are capable of playing, and for the most part controlled the game. SCAD had a couple of chances in the second half, but I felt like we won the second half."
ÂÂ
In the second half, Allan had a pair of goals to cut into the SCAD lead. Allan scored via a penalty kick for the first goal of his senior season in the 59th minute, then scored his second goal of the season in the 65th minute after getting by a defender and finding the lower right corner of the goal.
ÂÂ
For the remaining 25 minutes of the game, Milligan and SCAD battled with only a goal separating them. Milligan was not without its chances to tie as the Buffs took seven shots in the second period. The Buffs took 12 for the game, including six on goal, compared to 23 from SCAD (12 on goal).
ÂÂ
SCAD had the advantage in set plays from the corner, taking 13 corner kicks to Milligan's six.
ÂÂ
Milligan will play again at home on Friday when the Buffs host Life University at 7 p.m. In Milligan's first home game of the season, freshman
Rhys Borror's first collegiate goal was one of the keys to a 1-1 draw with University of the Cumberlands.
